Course Description:
In this 2-day weekend workshop, students will get an introduction to line etching on copper plates. We will go over plate preparation, protective grounds, image making/transferring, etching with ferric chloride, inking, and printing the plates. This workshop is an excellent way to learn one of the oldest forms of printmaking and create a beautiful piece of art for yourself. Students are encouraged to come prepared with a line-based image or illustration (formatted for a 4×6” plate) that will be transferred and etched.
After the first day’s class, students are given optional free access to the studio to continue working on their plate and prints.
All tools and materials are provided.
This workshop is beginner friendly and no prior print experience is necessary.
What you’ll leave with:
- your very own etched copper plate
- an edition of 3-5 prints
- a custom resource guide containing my personal tips and tricks for introductory etching
