“The Phoenician princess, Europa, was collecting flowers by the shores near the palace one day when she spotted a magnificent white bull basking in the sun. The bull was tender and let Europa dress him with flowers and invited her onto his back. Once situated, the great bull lept forth into the waves and carried Europa across the Mediterranean to the island of Crete. There, the bull revealed his true form as the god Zeus, expressing his divine love for her. By Zeus, Europa mothered three sons: Rhadamanthus, Sarpedon, and Minos. Before returning to the heavens, Zeus made Europa the first queen of Crete, gifting her with Talos (the giant automaton who guarded Crete), Laelaps (a dog that was destined to always catch its prey), a javelin that never misses, and a recreation of the white bull in the stars as the constellation Taurus.”
