So as not to be disappointed by another victory by Herakles, Hera summoned the colossal crab, Karkinos, from the depths to distract the hero and give the Hydra an advantage. The crab, however, was no match for the divine strength of Herakles. He managed his way onto the back of the crab and with great force, crushed the crab’s shell with his feet. In return for its service, Hera placed the Karkinos in the stars as the constellation of Cancer.”
